the story of my life

I'm writing a work of fiction for my creative writing class. I surprised myself when it turned out to be thirteen pages long. The thing is--it is not exactly fiction. Yep, it's all true. Right down to the recipe for bruchetta. I did however leave out that I went to the gym that afternoon...that wasn't particularly fascinating or anything. You see, I'm not very creative. Shhhh, don't tell. You can't be not-very-creative and be in a CREATIVE writing class. I am creative in some aspects: photography, poetry, jewelry making. That sort of stuff. But when it comes to writing stories, well, they say, "Write what you know." And I know me. That is what inspired me to begin my memoirs. I've always wanted to write a book and, if I put some lovin' into it, I can be a pretty decent writer. I tried to write about an even from November 2005. If you'll recall, that's when I first started my downhill slide. It's nothing fascinating: grocery shopping

memoirs of a girl-poet

Feeling particularly pensive right now but not sure why. I went shopping this morning. I bought: a swiffer (wet & dry) a swiffer carpet flick (it was only, like 12 bucks and I don't really need to shell out for a real vacume because i know that mine/mary's it out there somethere trouser socks two menswear blouses (for 8.98 each) a super-cute blouse (for 3.74!) a cute lightweight twill blazer-type jacket. (18.98...I may return it because I'm not sure about it.) a folder (for school) toothpaste (my "kiss me mint" toothpaste makes me gag...even if it does match my bathroom.) notecards (for about 2 bucks...correspondence is essential) I still need an iron. I looked around for that spray stuff that they used to sell that would take the wrinkles out of your clothes. You know, college student's best friend? Well, I couldn't find any. You may be interested in knowing that I've started working on my memoirs--whatever that means. ♥Tiffany♥

Rangeela

Mili dreams of being a famous actress one day. She is on the dance troupe of a movie, but nothing more than a back-up girl. Munna, Mili's friend, helps her to make it big. Mili gets her big break when Kamal, a famous actor, wants Mili as the heroine of his next big film, Rangeela (Colorful One). Mili and Kamal get very close and Munna feels completely left out of Mili's new world and unable to compete with big-shot Kamal. Both Kamal and Munna are in love with her, oblivious to Mili. Who will she choose? The movie starts out really slow, but that's how I hear a lot of Hindi movies are. It is also incredibly cheesy...more so, I am told from friend who are much more Bollywood savvy than I, that most Hindi movies. There is, of course, a lot of singing and dancing. Not unlike a 1980's Pepsi commercial. Mili looks awkward when she dances. Kamal looks REALLY bad in a speedo. Munna looks like an Indian George Michael. It sucks you in and you continue to watch the bad

dramatica

She felt that stabbing pain again. She almost wished that her heart would stop beating. She wanted to drown her sorrows, but in what? She opened the door of her refrigerator. In the half-empty bottle of Arbor Mist? Her phone rang. She let the machine pick up. Her best friend was leaving a message. "Hey girl! It's me, I have some serious urge to scope out the hotties tonight. Call me!" The person she really wanted to call was him. You know, just have a chat, like normal, you know? But things were a little less normal now. He was probably with her . She let her mind settle on him, though she knew that she should not. She knew where he was--he was prancing around with that little slut. She stopped herself. No, that would be wrong to say. Neither of them are sluts. They were both basically good people. That did not stop her, however, from having a small desire to put arsenic in their kool-aid. Yeah, she was a little bitter, but didn't she deserve to be? This was complet

Amazing Grace

Amazing Grace was a wonderful movie that will truly move you. I was completely immersed in the film about William Wilberforce's endeavors to abolish the slave trade in Great Brittan. Though, a previous comment from an unnamed man almost ruined it for me. I shall not repeat his comment to your for fear of spoiling your enjoyment of the movie. This film takes you over the course of about 16 years, and a magnificent job is done of aging the characters. Wilberforce's passion and dedication is inspiring. Amazing Grace! How sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found Was blind, but now I see. 'Twas Grace that taught my heart to fear, And Grace my fears relieved. How precious did that Grace appear The hour I first believed. Through many dangers, toils, and snares I have already come. 'Tis Grace hath brought me safe thus far And Grace will lead me home. The Lord has promised good to me. His Word my hope secures. He will my shield and port

Appetizer: Where on your body do you have a scar, and what caused it? I have a scar on my right elbow from when a boy from youth group pushed me because his sister and I were teasing him. Soup: What is something that has happened to you that you would consider a miracle? Miracles happen every day. I think if Lauren got potty trained and Alex was good ALL day...then that would be a miracle. Salad: Name a television personality who really gets on your nerves. Paris Hilton Main Course: What was a funny word you said as a child (such as "pasketti" for "spaghetti")? "Nary" was Mary, she called me "Iffy" which my mother still calls me. :-D Dessert: Fill in the blank: I have always thought ______ was ______. I have always thought "Tiger" was a lame nickname . ♥Tiffany♥

internal dichotomy

my internal dichotomy is well on it's way to being resolved. yesterday was a good day. i woke up way early for a meeting, dropped $77.00 on a new book, went to school, studied, read short stories, and went to bed way late after another meeting. it was a good day. it is going to be a good year. i'm a very happy girl. ♥Tiffany♥

What does a biblical relationship look like?

I just read a great article from Boundless Webzine that compares "modern dating" with "biblical courtship." Dating isn't harmless. You get these scars all over you that you have to really work to clean up. Then what do we do? We do it all over again. Because it's fun? Because it's what everyone else does? I don't know. Probably because we don't really see a reason not to do it. Well, this following quote is a pretty convincing as to why not to. According to the current school of thought, the best way to figure out whether you want to marry a particular person is to act as if you are married and see if you like it. Spend large amounts of time alone together. Become each other's primary emotional confidantes. Share your deepest secrets and desires. Get to know that person better than anyone else in your life. Grow your physical intimacy and intensity on the same track as your emotional intimacy. What you do and say together is p

Ash Wednesday

Today is Ash Wednesday. Lent starts. I'm giving up Facebook and Myspace. Mike says no big deal, because I'll just blog more. This is true. But if you don't see me of MySpace or Facebook, this is why. Maybe this will be the start of a good trend. You know...growing up and getting OFF those silly "social networking" sites. ♥Tiffany♥ I confess, I had lunch. What's more, I had lasagna for lunch. There was meat in it.

I have fear of man--Catholic man.

I went running yesterday morning. I ran for 1.2 miles. I have since decided that this was a bad idea because it was a Tuesday and days that begin with T are my gym days. And I don't particularly want to go to the gym after I went running that morning. So I think I'll run on MWF (if I wake up early enough) and go to the gym on TT. If I skip running, that's okay. Because it's free. The gym is not. I went running around my block and around the next block down. Which just happens to be where my old church is. You know, the church from when I used to be Catholic. Well, I called Fr. Chris after my run because I needed to talk to him. I owed it to him. As my friend, as my priest, I should have never dropped off the face of the earth without so much as a "so long, and thanks for all the fish." We met after school for about an hour and a half. When I arrived at St. Mary's, my brother and my father were there. "What are you doing here?" I asked. "What

What a weekend.

It's been crazy and I'm not going over the details. I mean, I guess I could say nothing and no one know that anything had happened. But major events happened this weekend and I definitely learned how much I've changed in the past months. I am so grateful that I have such amazing friends in whom I was able to confide. :-) Life is good. We are blessed. Whatever happens, happens and no matter where life goes, I know we're cool. And that God is just and right and wonderful. What amazed me is that I was able to truly know of God's goodness, even when I felt a lot less than good. ♥Tiffany♥ Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called "today," that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. ~Hebrews 3:12-14 (ESV)

Feast #131

Appetizer: What sound, other than the normal ringing, would you like your telephone to make? Right now, my phone is set to "ringtone 6" on the LG chocolate and I like that. It's a pretty ring that's not harsh to hear over and over again. And it's not a song. Soup: Describe your usual disposition in meteorological terms (partly cloudy, sunny, stormy, etc.). Sunny with scattered showers. Salad: What specific subject do you feel you know better than any other subjects? domestic goddessness Main Course: Imagine you were given the ability to remember everything you read for one entire day. Which books/magazines/newspapers would you choose to read? Everything I could get my hands on. Particularly the Bible, philosophy, decorating magazines, how-to-stay-sane-when-caring-for-children magazines. Dessert: If a popular candy maker contacted you to create their next confection, what would it be like and what would you name it? Um...some type of fruity hard candy (like Jolly R

Did you enjoy your VD?

Taco bake tonight with Christine. Sophisticated Palate tomorrow night with Mike. Wine & Tapas night on Saturday night with a lot of girlfriends. Church and Curtis's going away party on Sunday. Yay! I have so much to look forward to. What's that you say? How was my Valentine's Day? Most of it did not go as planned, but it was still really good. He got me a card that said: "I love you venti." :-) It was the only card at Starbucks that had the word "love" in it. When Mike bought it, he said to his friend there, "I hope Tiffany hasn't seen these." But as soon as I opened it, I said, "Oh, you got this from Starbucks!" Haha, I guess he doesn't notices me always looking at the Starbucks merchandise. We had cheese-basil stuffed chicken. Yummy! And just had a mostly very nice evening. I'm so in love. :-) ♥Tiffany♥ editors note: someone noted that me saying that i'm looking forward to curt's going away party made me loo

The Pursuit of Happyness

"Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" is one of the most famous phrases in the United States Declaration of Independence. These three aspects are listed among the "unalienable rights" of man. This is such a wonderful movie! If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend that you do. Will Smith plays Chris Gardner, a father struggling to give his son Christopher (Jaden Smith, Will Smith's son) a better life. Chris, a man who tries to sell a superfluous piece of medical equipment, tries out for an unpaid stockbroker internship with amazing prospects if he succeeds. Based on a true story, this movie will really tug at your heart strings. The most powerful scene, I believe, is the Dinosaurs in the Subway scene. And if you don't know what the heck I'm talking about--go watch the movie. Chris Gardner : [about the spelling mistakes in the graffiti of a building] It's not "H-A-P-P-Y-N-E-S-S" Happiness is spelled with an "I" i

Blissful estate

I am so happy. So content. Life is so good right now. It is as if everything is as it should be. He's blessed me so much lately. I mean, beyond anything I could have ever hoped for. And it's just super. I'm not a freak of nature, though, you know. Sometimes, I get seriously discontent about things. I wonder what if things changed before I'm ready. I dispair when things don't go my way. I get anxious about things I have to do. And then I remember that when God wants something to happen, He'll give me a peace about it all. But, gosh, I'm just so happy! ♥Tiffany♥

I'm a pirana!!!

So, I went to th orthodontist last Thursday and I came out looking like the girl from Finding Nemo. No, not really, but I do have RUBBER BANDS. Oh, the horror. Not so bad, actually, because I only have one. I think it's to adjust my bite, but I'm not really sure. I got terrified when Jamie started talking about rubber bands because I once had a friend that had her mouth practically rubber banded shut. I have some AWESOME news though. My braces are coming off in about six months. Isn't that wonderful? Mike has never known me without braces. He says it will be like a whole new girlfriend. Isn't that sweet? ♥Tiffany♥

Four For Friday

Q1 - Legislative Perks : In Indiana, home to the Super Bowl champion Indianapolis Colts, 45 state lawmakers took advantage of the Colts' offer to buy two tickets at $600.00 each to attend the Super Bowl game in Miami, FL. Do you think state law makers or members of Congress should be given preferential treatment when it comes to purchasing highly sought after tickets to sporting events? No, I think they should wait in line like everyone else. Q2 - Fast Food : Putting aside for a moment how bad you know it is for you, what is your favorite fast food meal? McDonalds #10...I think that's the chicken nugget meal. I love chicken nuggets. Q3 - Rules of the Street: For some, the lure of an iPod may be less about music and more about blotting out the world around them. But in some major New York cities, at least, the pause button could soon be pressed on this most modern of luxuries because someone has decided it's dangerous. New York State Senator Carl Kruger plans to introduc

Civil Twilight

According to the U.S. Naval Observatory, civil twilight is defined to begin in the morning, and to end in the evening when the center of the Sun is geometrically 6 degrees below the horizon. According it LadyTiffanyAnne, Civil Twilight, from South Africa, is a really awesome band. I saw them at a free concert to support O-Cha tea bar. They sound a little like Coldplay. They have a very hip look and an impressive vocal range. Catch them myspace: www.myspace.com/civiltwilightband

yearly refrigerator collage

Every year, Janelle sends out a Christmas letter and a photograph of the oh-so-cute family. Last year, every thing was all red and green: the picture border, the letters, the envelopes, etc. This year, it's a bit of a snowflake theme with varying shades of blue and white. In return, she gets pictures from nearly every friend, neighbor, and relative with children (and one without). These pictures go up on the refrigerator doors and change annually. I love to look through the newest batch and compare them to the older photos. I have seen children get one year older and families expand. There is this one really cute little girl and her father, I have no idea who they are, but I see one picture of them each Christmas (so, three so far) and it is usually him and her and a Christmas tree, I think. It's cute. These yearly photos make me realize a weird connection that we have with people that we have never and will never meet. I wonder who has seen photos of me? ♥Tiffany♥

hopefully I'll get to interview Jacob Johnson...he's a legend (in the making)

So, I don't know if I've shared this with all of you or not, but as of last week, I officially told my bosses that I will be leaving at the end of the year. It will royally suck to leave this job. Eloquent, I know, but there is no other way to put it. I am hoping to find some sort of way to get my foot in the proverbial door of journalism. I have officially put on the list of staff writers for Greenville Scene . This is a pretty cool thing. I'll be writing for someone other than myself about something I love--the local music scene. I have another friend who is on staff as well, so that should be way cool. Hopefully, this venture will be a lot of fun and a good step in the right direction. ♥Tiffany♥

skelaxin

So I had a doctor's appointment today. Finally, after having it rescheduled three times because of weather, school, and bad timing! Well guess what I got? Two perscriptions. 1 for massage therapy (providing that Tricare covers it) and 1 for muscle relaxers. Crazy. I have awful stress and knots and stuff in my back. People have told me to try Aleve and Ibuprofen, but that never really does anything. So I'm going for the big stuff. ♥Tiffany♥

i promised to wait

i cried out, dear Lord and You heard me and i was amazed i guess i should not have been i was so desperate You know when i asked what i asked that night and i guess i was a little skeptical too forgive me, Father my request was so specific and i was so scared i wanted to be sure that it was not all for vain so i asked to know and that You would let me know in such a way that there could be no doubt i asked specifically dear Lord to hear it come straight from his lips You, dear Lord answered my request in wanting to do what You want me to do You told me what to do so i will i won't make assumptions i've done that before dear Lord and it was unfortunate i can do nothing more than rely on You so i will wait, Father, for Your will

Naturally Sinful

Alex and I had another extended conversation about sin. It's hard to explain sin to a three (four in April) year old. I told him that when he sins, it makes Jesus sad. I asked Alex if he remembered about Jesus dying on the cross. Alex has shown me the picture in his preschoolers bible with Jesus on the cross. He goes into serious mode and looks at the sadly looks at the picture before telling me that "the mean men" put the nails in Jesus and put him on the cross. Alex and I talked about how much it must hurt to have nails in your hands! I told Alex that Jesus did that for him. "We shouldn't sin," I said, "because Jesus died to give us life." Instead of putting him in a regular timeout, I told Alex that I was going to leave the room. I told him that I wanted him to apologize, not to me, but to Jesus. I told him that he should think about what he did wrong and tell Jesus how sorry he was and also how much he loved Jesus. In wonder if this
