new recipe: Quick and Easy Chicken Noodle Soup

Tonight, I made the easiest soup EVER! Okay, well, that was a little bit of an exaggeration. It's way easier to dump some Progresso out of a can and heat it up in the microwave. So, let me say that this is the easiest soup from scratch EVER! :) You can read the super simple recipe HERE . The recipe calls for both chicken broth and veggie broth. I had chicken stock that I made over the weekend (using these instructions ) but I didn't have enough. I was just going to buy chicken broth (BTW at Publix, Wolfgang Puck Organic Broth is cheaper then Progresso or Swanson), but I noticed this: Organic, vegan (not that I'm a vegan) base for broth. I bought one in each beef, chicken, and vegetable. At less than $7/jar, it is way cheaper than buying a ton of broth. Anyway, I couldn't have been happier with the soup. And Mike loved it too. It was way delicious. I served it with our favorite biscuits, Mary B's. WIN.

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.

I recently finished reading Pride and Prejudice for the first time and thoroughly loved it. I thought it might be drab. I thought I might dislike it just as much as I do Wuthering Heights . I was so wrong. Of course, I've already seen the movies--at least some of them--and know the basic premise of the story. So, I was pretty sure I would like the book. I didn't know how much I would love it! I'd review the story, but I suspect you already know what it's all about. If you don't, you can certainly goggle and find a review that is much better than one I could write. I will say that, as with most books that have movies made out of them, its better than the movie. It is much better than the movie. I foresee that Pride and Prejudice will be a book I will read at least once a year. It wasn't a difficult read, as I often assume older novels will be. I couldn't put it down! If you're in need of a really good love story, I highly recommend it. I was to

from the inbox: a little christian humor

It's been a while since I've been emailed anything I thought was worth sharing. In fact, I don't think I've shared anything "from the inbox" since I switched blogs. Well, I got this from my dad today, and I just had to share it with you: Jesus and Satan were having an on-going argument about who was better on the computer. They had been going at it for days, and frankly God was tired of hearing all the bickering. Finally fed up, God said, 'THAT'S IT! I have had enough. I am going to set up a test that will run for two hours, and from those results, I will judge who does the better job.' So Satan and Jesus sat down at the keyboards and typed away. They moused. They faxed. They e-mailed... They e-mailed with attachments. They downloaded.... They did spreadsheets! They wrote reports.. They created labels and cards. They created charts and graphs. They did some genealogy reports. They did every job known to man. Jesus work

flowers

These are actually the flowers I got for Valentine's Day. I took these photos ages ago and they've just been sitting on my computer. I don't really have much to say today, but I didn't want to leave you hanging, so I thought I'd post these. :) Happy Tuesday!

music monday: gravedigger by willie nelson

You know, I had all my music monday posts ready and queued up about a month ago. Appropriate that this one is up for today, because I just watched the Bones episode in which they finally catch the gravedigger .

pointing & shooting: why a better camera doesn't necessarily mean better photos a.k.a. I hate pop-up flash

So, in this installment of P&S, I don't actually have any photos taken with a point & shoot camera. Disappointing, I know. But what I am going to show you is how you can have a nice fancy camera and still take terrible photos. Flash is your friend, but only if you know how to use it. And that means bouncing, diffusing, and other things I won't be getting into today. Is the pop-up flash on your camera your friend? Well, here are two photos you should see. This first photo was taken with my Canon 60D and a Sigma 28-80 lens . I flipped the mode over to "Auto" and low and behold, because it is in the middle of the night and the lighting in my house is rather low, the flash popped up. And this photo was captured: "What a cute dog!" You might say upon seeing this photo. "I mean, I think she's cute. She looks pretty creepy!" Oh, friend, I concur! Also, I promise I took that photo with my camera. My $1000 camera (plus lens

so much pretty: photography date

Today, I went out with my friend Jaclyn to a location I've been wanting to check out for a while: the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research, or CU-ICAR for short. It's a mouthful, I know. Credit to all these photos goes to my friend Jaclyn . :)   We started out on the campus where there were some really cool buildings. I do not have any photos of these buildings, but I'm sure you are all skilled in the art of googling. Anyway, I really hope to go back there soon to have a photo shoot :)  Afterward, we went out into a wooded area on the campus and took quite a few photos. As always, I loved having someone take my photo. I took off my glasses for a few of these shots. They can be annoying to take photos of sometimes. Here's a tip: put the arms of your glasses a little higher up so the glasses are tilting down a bit. That will get rid of the glare (like in the first picture).   I've really got to say. food & photography: the making of an apple pie

I haven't blogged about new recipes that I've tried in a while, but when I made this last pie, I remembered to take pictures! If you'll remember, I made Mike a pie for Valentine's Day . It was my first time ever making a pie and it was delicious. Because I use pre-made crusts (purists, don't hate), making a pie was super-duper easy. Theoretically, your finished apple pie would look something like this... However, I forgot to take a photo of the final product, so I had to go to google images for this one. Anticlimactic, I know. But trust me, it was delicious. How do I know? Mike made that sound he makes when he tastes something very delicious. Like pie or cheesy italian tortellini . Next pie? My hubby's requested lemon meringue. Recipe:  Perfect Apple Pie from Pillsbury.com
