Rainbow cake!

With her birthday fast approaching, my sister-in-law put this link on my facebook page. http://www.flickr.com/photos/emily-weaver-brown/4827840735/in/faves-38319530@N03/ Go check it out. Ooh and aww. And know that there is NO way I was going to make that cake. At least not yet. Someday. Maybe. So, in my search for a replacement, I found a recipe on Omnomicom . I made the cake without too much difficulty. And, unlike the recipe, my cake wasn't diet at all. I made the cake as directed on the box and used canned frosting. I think if I had used the soda in the cake it would have been denser and less gigantic. See, I made two box cakes and put all the batter in two pans. Typically, you do two pans for ONE box of batter. Eep. :/ Also, I should have used twice as much gel coloring to have those really vibrant colors. My cake was more pastel. I used ALL the gel coloring in each tube! It didn't occur to me to double the amount of gel coloring like all the other ingredients

Twinfest 2011: myrtle beach

So, I've been meaning to blog about Twinfest since we got back, but, well, I was totally slack. I think, however, that some people were a little confused about Twinfest. See fest is short for festival. So people thought I was going to a big twin convention. Well, no, it was just Mary and I and the first annual sister's vacation.  Anyway, Twinfest was SO MUCH FUN. On the way to Myrtle Beach--Broadway on the Beach, specifically--we kept seeing signs for Pirate Adventure and MagiQuest which prompted this tweet . While we did neither, we did make sure to get a photo at MagiQuest. I mean, how could we not? Dumbledore's alive!! At Broadway on the Beach, you could get fish food pellets for a quarter. There were a few fish and I had quarters. So, why not? This is why not. Once the fish saw you, even if you didn't have food. They came over and started opening and closing their mouths like baby chicks. Except they were gross and ugly fish.  Mary had t

Vegetarian Challenge: week 2

This week, I had a fail on Sunday. I had a hot dog for lunch. Let me correct that, I had TWO hot dogs for lunch. Not veggie dogs. Cheap hot dogs from a corner store. One had relish (relish! That's like vegetables, right?) and one, oh, the second one? It had chili. Oh, how I love a hot dog with chili. See, we were on the beach and I was hungry. My brother went to get hot dogs, and I wasn't going to starve myself. Other than that, I've had some really delicious meals. Wednesday, Mike made portobello mushroom burgers topped with guacamole and they were amazing. I mean, they were so delicious, I couldn't believe it. We liked them so much we had them again on Friday. :) I went out with some girlfriends on Thursday to On the Border. It took me a while to figure out what to eat and, boy, my options sure were limited. I eventually settled on Dos Equis fish tacos. Fish tacos isn't something I ever think to buy. Fish tacos just sound gross to me. I sure have changed

so much pretty: braid tutorial

So, I don't have photos for you today, though, really, I probably should. I LOVE the top I'm wearing. It's nothing special, but it's new and its pink. Talk about winning. My hair also looks fabulous today and I want to share with you the tutorial I used to first learn how to do this hairstyle. Also, I love Loepsie's channel . She is adorable! I've done my hair like this a few times so far, and I know you've seen it at least once . I love doing my hair like this because it's pretty easy (once you get the hang of it) and so much pretty. Also, it keeps my hair off the back of my neck. And two less pretty reasons: it keeps my hair off my inevitably sweaty neck (thank you, summer) and its great for those days that your hair is too greasy to wear down but you really would like to go another day before washing it. Those last two are the big reasons why I'm wearing my hair like this today. I know, that is so sexy you can't even stand it. And, di

wee bit wednesday v47.

{one} what’s the worst date you’ve ever been on? Oh, hmm... how about the one when I had to break up with Justin. What made it so awkward was that we had only been dating a few days. He was in the "everything's new and wonderful" stage and I was in the "I'm sick of you and now I've got to figure out how to tell you" stage. It was a load of laughs. {two} if you could be any other person for one day, who would it be? Gosh, um, Jasmine Star, I guess. She's fabulous and such a wonderful photographer. Also, she's a Christian, has a cute husband and a cute dog, AND she's a twin. We have so much in common. {three} what is your favorite kind of cheese? All kinds except the ones with really strong GROSS flavor. Like bleu cheese. That is not yummy at all. But, really, I love all kinds of cheeses. {four} do you remember your 1st grade teacher? Miss Kramer. She got engaged in the middle of the school year. She had a tooth pulled and the tooth

music monday: God only knows by the beach boys

I love love love this song. I love the lyrics, love the instruments, the vocals, and how it makes me all swoony. Anyway, I'll be missing my hubby this week while I'm off at Twinfest and he's home bonding with the dog. Also, if you're a fan of Love Actually like I am, you should watch this version instead.

Vegetarian Challenge: week 1

Day 1: Technically, I did not start this vegetarian thing until the evening. Because at JR and Amelia's wedding, I had corn dog. Of COURSE I had a corn dog! It was a like a state fair reception. I had a corn dog, lemonade, and cotton candy. Gosh, I could go for more of that cotton candy... Anyway, for dinner on Sunday we had salmon, one of our favorite main dishes. It was a great way to kick off this vegetarian thing. Salmon, mashed potatoes, and a big side of leafy green salad. Yum! Day 2: Let's see. For lunch today I had leftovers from last night. Salmon, mashed potatoes, and a huge salad. We're going to try to eat at least one serving of raw food a day.  For dinner, Kristy & Kyle came over for Kyle's birthday. Everyone else had burritos, I made a cheese quesadilla. We also had beans, rice, and, of course birthday cake! I splurged for Kyle and got him a ice cream cake. It was delicious. Day 3: I had another cheese quesadilla for lunch today. They'

Hey! It's a SMP guest post! "I wore a cute outfit to work today. My co-workers were commenting on it and saying how cute it was, so I got Karen to take pics of me with her phone. I thought you’d like that. :)" ~Stargirl Skirt: XXI Top: Charlotte Russe (Thifted) Shoes: Mossimo Tights: Assets Belt: Apt. 9 (I think. It’s from Kohl’s anyway)

Vegetarian Challenge

So, I don't know if I've talked on here before about how Mike and I are going all hippie. We've started buying our meat from a local farm. We rarely every drink coca-cola. I'm trying to watch out for high fructose corn syrup. We're trying to eat healthier, organic, and local. We've watched Food Inc. , Food Matters , and King Corn . All of which I highly recommend, by the way. King Corn is probably the most entertaining of all three. The other day, I watched a trailer for Forks Over Knives . Mike had posted it on his twitter account. Well, he comes home that evening and says that he thinks, maybe, he'd like to go vegetarian. ... ... Did I hear that right? I did. I wasn't too crazy about it at first. But I jumped on board and it's been pretty fun so far. So far as in, we're on Day 5. We're going to stick with this for a month, and then, who knows, maybe we'll like it so much it stays. We'll still eat fish. But, being raise
