2013 Pantone Color of the Year: Emerald

[ source ] [ source ] [ source ] [ source ] I've never been the biggest fan of green. In fact, I don't think I have hardly any green. I have no green makeup, no green clothes, and no decent green nail polishes. But after hearing that Emerald was the 2013 Pantone Color of the Year, I started looking around and now I'm thinking that it might not be so bad! (Just for the record, I have some of that Sephora waterproof jumbo eyeliner and it is boss.)

Saturday shops: Industrie

I was running out of shops to promote (because little ol' me cannot possibly know of every great Etsy shop to be had). So, I decided to ask for suggestions in the Etsy forums. I got a lot of responses from sellers wanting me to promote their shops. I'll only promote something if I like it--of course. This shop, Industrie , was the first shop to respond, and I love love love the creative jewelry you can find in this shop! As seen in...

The May issue of Skirt! magazine came out at the beginning of the month, and I haven't even shown it to you yet! It was a mother/daughter issue and I was in it with my mommy! She's in the Philippines right now and has been for a while. She gets home June 8th (her b-day!) and I can't wait! :) photo by John Fowler You can read all about it here: Veronica Heuser and Tiffany Kuechenmeister | Crafty Women

Saturday shops: maykela

Unique Jewelry by Maykela is one of the coolest jewelry shops on Etsy and when I thought about higlighting Etsy shops, I knew it had to be the first one. I could have spent way too much time wandering around the shop just looking at all the gorgeous hand wrought works of art for sale. I mean, I might make a cute pair of pearl earrings, but I am not a jewelry artist by any means. It's a wee bit out of my price range, but I had to share in case any of my readers might like this shop. Whether you buy or not, you have to check out this shop! It's a feast for the eyes. jewelry: sold

If you read this regularly, you may have heard me mention my Etsy shop. But maybe you've never checked it out. I love making simple earrings out of pretty beads and decided that maybe other people would like them too. Also, I am cheap. So, I refuse to sell my jewelry at a price that I wouldn't pay. So you get a great deal--not that I would ever call you cheap! ;) Here are four pairs of earrings I just sold. If you like them, you should check out my shop because I have plenty more! And if you like a pair below, I can recreate them just for you! (Except the blue-and-white ones. I'm out of those beads!) genuine black freshwater pearl earrings: $5 blue and white beaded earrings: $4 beaded earrings: $2 Metal and clear glass beaded earrings: $4

Notice the coat and the space heater? I'm sitting with the door open to get some natural light. Our heat has been sketchy (that's a whole other story!) and the glass storm door doesn't close securely so it's COLD. I think I should get gloves before I do this again. ;) I like to use this cool wicker vase thing as a prop for my pictures. Not only does it makes a pretty nice background, but necklaces and earrings hang nicely from it. And this is a picture of the set-up. I bring down my bedside lamp and use it to add light opposite the sunlight to avoid shadows. But I have to use white paper to make a shadow to avoid direct light and to keep the jewelry from looking yellow. I learned that a photography book my brother gave me. :) p.s. Don't forget to enter my jewelry giveaway ! It ends January 5th!
