Distance learning

Quarantine log: day 26

Distance learning has been going well. Jojo actually says he likes being more than school because he likes being home with family. However, he added that it is harder that school. I think because all the worksheets. When he said that, that made me realize we need to diversify his learning. I can go off the worksheets (because I am NO lesson planner) and make learning a little more hands on.

For example, he was supposed to fill out a worksheet with all the parts of a flower. There were, like, four worksheets that were the same thing. So, instead, we looked at plants and talked about them. We also planted out Venus fly trap and started a science journal.

He has video chats with his class once or twice a week. His teacher does a good job making it fun! They've had show and tell, talking about their favorite books, or a rainbow scavenger hunt. I also had a video conference with his teachers to talk about what to expect for the rest of the year. School isn't officially closed for the rest of the year, but we all agreed that we would be surprised if we went back this year.

This is our kitchen counter classroom! See that binder? He has a LOT of worksheets!

SC State Parks had a live lesson and craft. It was bird themed, so you know I was all about that! Jojo brought the bird he made for his show-and-tell the next day!

These are the little birds they made (honestly, I made them). We (I) made them out of paper they had painted and we had put in our "paper that you can cut up" bin.

This is Jojo having a conference with his class. Ruthie loves to participate in his video chats!

We moved their playroom table to the kitchen for a while. It's hard to sit still in squishy chairs, so it didn't last long. We're still trying to figure out how to do school best for us!

For some art time, we went outside and colored with chalk. We did it at the end of our driveway so that anyone who walked by could see the pretty pictures.

We love getting school lunch! I love it most because I don't have to make anything. The kids think it's so fun to see what will be in their bags. The first day, they asked if there would be a toy! Um, this is not McDonalds.

One thing we did to change things up was have a lesson with Papa! He bought Jojo an electricity kit for Christmas, so we got that out. It was so fun! We used a battery to power a bulb and a motor. My dad taught Jojo about circuits and closed loops and stuff like that.

This is Jojo doing his rainbow scavenger hunt with his class.

Our last day of distance learning before Spring Break! I am going to give him Good Friday off, but we will probably be doing a little school next week. Just to give us structure.
