Huntington Island beach trip...

I did something this previous weekend that not many gals would be willing to do. I went on a trip to the beach with a bunch of Boy Scouts. To read the story, go here . That is Crew 9's blog where we can post pics and info about our adventures. Funny thing happened down at the beach. I was recognized by an out-of-council Scoutmaster! It's the first time since I've worked at COI that I've been recognized by someone other than those I have some sort of affiliation with. When some of the scouts saw me as we were loading up: "Hey! It's Tiffany! It's Tiffany from the Trading Post. I bought socks from her!" Yes, this was my "sock troop." Jas , one of the older scouts who is a pretty cool kid, would bring the boys in and say, "Tiffany thinks Scout socks are cool." Yeah...I was constantly restocking socks that week. Usually, we won't do stuff with the troop, but, for my first trip, I'm glad we did. I absolutely loved sitting ar...

"Brandon, would you please tell Tiffany that she's a flapper*?"

That was Marshall condemning me because I really haven't been to any Order of the Arrow events since I joined. However, Brandon says that I'm not a flapper*. Why? I came up to camp just to dance in the OA powwow and apparently that's more than 90% of our lodge members do. Several times, it was suggested that I should come up to COI on a Tuesday night. Tuesday nights are when Brotherhood** questioning takes place. I say I don't deserve it and they say, "It's not what you do before Brotherhood, it's what you do after you become Brotherhood that counts." I don't do anything with the lodge except dance and I cannot imagine there would be a time in my life when I could be compelled to do much more. Aside from, perhaps, helping with lodge regalia. It would be nice to have a sash with bars. I dunno. We shall see. So, yes, obviously, I went up to COI to dance last night. It was raining, it was sunny, it was raining, it was sunny. Eventually the sun st...

Blah blah blah

What is a girl to do with a whole week to herself? No work, no boyfriend? Write, write, write. But mostly not on here. Sorry. I've written most of the first draft of my open mic article and it says "open mic" far too many times. I'm interviewing Jacob Johnson later this week and checking out two open mic nights. Apparently the Pickin' Parlor is closed. What is up with that? That makes only three open mic nights in Greenville County. There have got to be more. If you know about any, let me know! I'm going up to Camp Old Indian this Wednesday to dance. :-) I am super excited. I can't wait to be in the regalia again! ♥Tiffany♥

Brotherhood of Cheerful Service

I am member of the Boy Scouts of America. If any one reading this is also a Boy Scout, you can tell by the arrow around my neck in the 2nd picture (pink ribbon and all!) that I am working hard to get It took me a long time to decide whether or not I really should get one. Would I be a flapper? Or would I be a true arrow(wo)man? Would I seriously uphold what WWW mean? Would I attend Spring & Fall Fellowships, Dixies, Winter Banquets, other AKK events? I missed Fall Fellowship because I was at a babyshower for a woman in my small group who I didn't really know, but I would now say is my friend. I am going to be missing the Winter Banquet because I will be going to a surprise party for friend. Someone once told me that people should be able to tell whether or not someone is in the Order by their actions, not by their sash. (Well, because I'm a girl, no one would guess me being in the Order!) I hope that, even though I'm unable to attend Lodge-wide events, that I t...

Fancy Shawl Dance

So, some of you may have seen my picture and wondered: What the heck is Tiffany doing? Well, this summer, I took part in a dance pagent/powwow hosted by Order of the Arrow Lodge 185, Atta Kulla Kulla . (A lodge that I joined this summer!) My dance is a Fancy Shawl Dance and it didn't start until the 1950s when one young woman wanted to be able to express herself in dance the same way that young men could. When I dance, I am supposed to resemble a butterfly. The regalia I wore includes a dress, an apron/bib, leggings, mocasins, and--of course--a big flashy shawl. All of this regalia belongs to the lodge (except the jewelry worn which I made and designed to match the outfit.) I am planning on making my own regalia (I've only made my own mocasins so far...) and what I am going to do is find a butterfly that I think is really pretty, and design my regalia after that butterfly. Too cool, I know.

Learning

I learned a lot this summer. I learned more than just how to run a store. I learned the difficulties of being somebody's boss. I learned how absorbent I am of my surroundings and just how detrimental or beneficial that can be. I learned just how lucky I truly am. I learned that silliness has it's time and place. I learned what it was like to be genuinely disliked. I learned to tell people, "I appreciate you." I learned what a co-ed dorm would be like. I learned the value of respect. I learned that the words "I love you," can change your entire day. I learned how to find loop-holes in my day to find that person who would say those words to me. I learned humility and the importance thereof. I learned that friends love you no matter what.

Resident Camp - A Pirate Adventure

Arrrg, matey. That was the theme of the Cubbies resident camp this year. Last year it was a Space theme. Next year? Wild West. Well, I worked for 9 days straight. And now I'm home for a little bit. I never realized how much work Russell did! It was okay, though, I greatly enjoyed it. Here what's new: I have more keys than I know what to do with. I'm rooming with Stephanie and I love it. I'm fancy dancing in the OA Dance Pagent. I get to dance every week. Reno is June 18 - 24 (Sunday - Friday of 2nd Week) I miss Mike. He left on Friday. I last talked to him around 1pm on Friday. I won't get to talk to him again for three weeks. And that is awful. He made me a CD. It's all professional looking and all, him being a graphic designer. It's called SummerSongs for Tiffany and it has "Wicked World" by Jon Auer on it. 'You're all I want in this wicked world...' He also sent me flowers. :-) Daisies. They'...

Camp Old Indian

Well, I'm off to COI for two months. To be the 2nd best Trading Post director ever. (I bow to you, Ru-sell!!!) Write me letters or postcards! Tiffany Anne Heuser 601 Callahan Mountain Road Travelers Rest, SC 29690 I'll miss everyone. I may do weekly updates. We'll see.

Dance and romance at Modern on Friday

The kids are taking their naps...or are supposed to be. Alex has not slept a wink, but played in his room for the past hour! Tonight is Modern and I'm so excited. I'm also excited about the people that I know will be there. Yay. "Come early, drink copiously, and stay late." Saturday is the COI staff interviews at 8:30am. Ouch. I think I have to be there at 8:15am. Must not drink too much at Modern. Maybe I'll take a nap so that I can stay out later!!

She went to school one day...

Spring semester started last week. So, that's fun. I'm being all studious and stuff, it's weird. I was never the studying kind of girl in highschool. And anyway, if I go on to grad school, no one is going to give a crap about my undergrad. Oh wait, I'll never go to gradschool. Of course, there was a point in my life when I never though I'd go to college . Not because lack of brains, but because lack of want to. Why go to college when you can get married at 18? Not to diss anyone who did get married at 18, but it's not for me. Being 21, I think I finally realize that. Pokey called me last night and asked if I would be the Trading Post Director . I'm going to be getting paid more than I thought I would. But they couldn't find anyone else. I wonder if Ru-sell knows that they hired a business manager. I really wanted to work with Colin . And they said that they would make time so that I could work at the waterfront sometime. I hope Weston applied for th...
